NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES EDUCATION POLICY FRAMEWORK was born on August 11, 2011 through DepEd Order No. 62 s. 2011 which was prepared in consultation with the representatives from Indigenous Peoples (Communities), Civil Society, and other Government Agencies.
The Indigenous Peoples Rights to access culture-responsive Basic Education are stipulated in the 1987 Philippine Constitution, the Indigenous Peoples Right Act (IPRA) of 1997 and the Internatioal Human Rights International Human Rights Instruments, particularly the United Nations (UN) Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (2007)
DOs and DON'Ts
on the CONDUCT OF ACTIVITIES AND USE OF MATERIALS INVOLVING ASPECTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' CULTURE
10 DOs on Cultural Presentations, Festivals and Similar Activities
1. Do promote dignified appreciation for the community and the culture.
2. Do foster appreciation of the performance or presentation from the standpoint and standards of the community.
3. Do adhere to the standars and other stipulations of the community.
4. Do promote authenticity and give adequate preparations.
5. Do seek permission from the community to present aspects of indigenous culture.
6. Do maintain values communicated by the cultural expressions.
7. Do communicate clearly historical background and context of presentation.
8. Do properly orient audience to foster educational quality.
9. Do seek permission of the community before wearing their indigenous clothing and related paraphernalia if you are a teacher or DepEd personnel who do not belong to the Indigenous Community.
10. Do seek permission from the community before using artifacts and community symbols for whatever purpose.
10 DOs on Cultural Presentations, Festivals and Similar Activities
1. Don't commercialize indigenous culture.
2. Don't use financial incentives as undue motivation.
3. Don't compare and compete
4. Don't modify or exaggerate elements of cultural presentations.
5. Don't stereotype and misrepresent. Never imitate physical appearance of members of the community as part of the presentation.
6. Don't refer indigenous clothing as "costume" since the cultural context of these materials is not for the show.

8. Don't use for commercial purposes, and
9. Don't make fun of indigenous clothings and related paraphernalia.
10. Don't use sacred artifacts for presentations and other activities that the community deem to be an inappropriate context of their use.
